In spite of her fear, Teresa becomes more determined than ever to reach Texas when she witnesses a murder committed by the Delgado Cruz, a dreaded group of organized criminals. Later, to save her baby, Teresa must call upon her Aztec heritage to unravel the meaning of the granicera’s advice: “Follow the caged quetzal.”

A psychotherapist, Josephine Harper is coauthor of Finding Daddy: A Story of the Great Depression and the Willa Award–winning Prairie Dog Pioneers.

A writer, teacher, and professional storyteller, Jo Harper is the author of several children’s books, including Ollie Jolly, Rodeo Clown, and Prairie Dog Pioneers (coauthored with Josephine Harper). She lives in Houston.
